Job Title:    Stump Grinding Technician
Reports to:    Director of Production
Pay Rate:    $17 - $30, depending on experience and skills

Job Summary:
 

The Stump Grinder plays a crucial role in completing our jobs and leaving a lasting positive impression on our clients. As the final step in our process, this position requires independence, self-motivation, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate understands their machine inside and out, takes pride in their work, and enjoys interacting with customers to ensure a seamless experience.
While prior machine experience is a plus, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn are the most important qualities in a candidate.


Key Responsibilities:


Stump Grinding Operations
- Operate self-propelled stump grinding machinery to remove tree stumps and surface roots efficiently.
- Assess each job site and determine the best approach for maximum efficiency and safety.


Daily Preparation & Equipment Checks
-Review the daily work order before leaving the lot, seeking clarification as needed.
- Perform pre-departure equipment checks, ensuring all machinery is fueled, oiled, and ready for operation.
- Verify that all necessary tools (blowers, shovels, debris guards, etc.) are loaded and in working order.


Worksite Safety & Professionalism
- Adhere to company protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all times.
- Maintain a safe and organized work zone, including proper vehicle parking, traffic signage, and cone placement.
- Ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn properly, and encourage team compliance with safety standards.


Customer Interaction & Team Communication
- Serve as a professional and knowledgeable representative of The Treeist, engaging with clients in a courteous and informative manner.
- Communicate effectively with relevant team members to ensure a smooth workflow and job completion.


Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
- Assist in routine maintenance and upkeep of stump grinding machinery and company vehicles.
- Properly record maintenance activities and report any mechanical issues.


Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn stump grinding operations, including safe and effective machine handling.
- Ability to tow and maneuver a trailer, ensuring proper transport of equipment.
- Experience operating a stump grinding machine (e.g., Vermeer SC552 or similar) is a bonus, but training is available.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in top condition.
- Consistent use of PPE and ability to enforce safety standards among team members.
- Punctuality and reliability—being on time and ready to work is essential.
